Bikes on Chinese Trains

How to take your bike on trains in China, from high-speed rail to regional services.

Taking your bike on Chinese trains is possible but requires planning. Here’s what you need to know.

High-Speed Rail (G/D Trains)

Bikes are not allowed as carry-on. Your options:

  1. Ship as cargo: Most stations have a cargo service (行李托运). Pack your bike in a box, ship it 1-2 days ahead.
  2. Disassemble and pack: Some riders pack bikes into regulation-size luggage (folding bikes work best).

Regular Trains (K/T/Z Trains)

More bike-friendly:

  • Many allow bikes as checked baggage
  • Some allow bikes in the luggage car with a small fee
  • Check station policy when buying tickets
